Riders staying over in Knysna and joining the Garden Route Events team for the supported social cruise back to George the following day can safely leave their cars at the start venue. The Seven Passes takes you past seven gorges cut deep by rivers flowing to the sea, offering some of the best non-technical MTB in the country. The 2017 edition of the 7 Passes MTB race will start from the outskirts of the beautiful town of George at Glenwood High School. He experienced many challenges in the dense forest surrounds and Thomas also bumped heads with his brother-in-law, Adam de Smidt with whom he shared the contract. On completion of the road the two never spoke again. 7 Passes MTB also offers a shorter route for the younger and not so fit riders who still want to be part of the action at the Knysna Waterfront finish. The start time has for the last two years seen the shorter route leave approximately 10 minutes after the longer 79km leaders pass the second water point located at the Highlands Cash Store and service station, close to halfway between George and Knysna. Minimum age of participation is 19 years on the last day of the same year. 2.2 Any medical expenses incurred will be for the competitors personal account 2.3 Competitors are responsible for their own evacuation costs should the need arise. HELMETS AND CLOTHING 4.1 Any rider not wearing a helmet at any stage, on or pushing the bike walking, will be immediately disqualified 4.2 All helmets must comply with ANSI standards 4.3 Appropriate riding attire must be worn at all times. RIDER IDENTIFICATION 5.1 Both riders in the team must display their number boards at all times 5.2 Bike number boards are to be firmly fixed to the front of the bike, and must not be obscured by cables or other items. 8.2 All regular traffic rules must be observed at all times during the race. Any rider caught in these offenses is subject to a life-long ban from GRE events, and prosecution. BASIC MOUNTAIN BIKING RULES AND ETIQUETTE 15.1 Riders must complete the entire distance of the race, and the responsibility for following the official route lies with the rider. 15.4 Any walking, running or riding by a rider which takes place outside of the marked route can result in disqualification 15.5 Riders may not receive any technical assistance along the course from anyone other than their team partner, or an official of GRE 15.6 Riders must be polite at all times, and allow faster riders to overtake without obstruction and when safe to do so. 15.7 Riders must respect the countryside and ride on the official route only.
