Knysna and the surrounding area is a natural paradise of dense lush indigenous forest, the tranquil knysna lagoon and beautiful beaches. The lagoon is a protected marine reserve and home to the mysterious sea horse and many species of fish. The area is also the home of the elusive forest elephants, the only ones of their kind in South Africa, the rare Pansy shell and the striking Knysna Loerie. Activities include hiking and walking, mountain biking, golfing, lagoon trips, sunset cruises, fishing, kite boarding and many other experiences. For the nature lovers and those with children looking for animal experiences, there is The Knysna Elephant Park, The Elephant Sanctuary, Blue Hills Bird Farm, Birds of Eden, Monkey Land and Radical Raptors all within easy travelling distance. There are also numerous food and craft markets in the area over weekends, namely Wild Oats in Sedgefield and The Harkerville Farmers market between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. The annual Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is one of South Africa’s most popular festivals with huge appeal for sports lovers, families and those in search of a great party! More than 100 exciting events ranging from cycling, running and adventure races to wine and whisky tastings and gala evenings draws thousands to the beautiful Garden Route town over the 10 days of the festival. South Africa’s premier motorsport festival is a unique South African event that brings together a mixture of motoring elements into a celebrated week-long jamboree of excitement, challenges, fun and enjoyment. Spend the day on the beach and in the surf at Buffalo Bay or just go for a walk. The easy picturesque beach walk at low tide between Brenton-on-Sea to Buffalo Bay (5.5km one way), is popular with the locals. Spend a morning or afternoon on Bollard Bay on the south side of Leisure Isle (facing the West Head). This crescent shaped beach and the shallow waters of the gently lapping lagoon waters is ideal for young children. Enjoy a picnic at many of the grassy picnic spots in the Diepwalle Forest. Take a lagoon trip on one of the ferries to explore the lagoon. Rose Cottage is a large comfortable one bedroom self-catering cottage with en-suite bathroom, a lounge and dining area, kitchen and patio perfect for an afternoon cup of tea or sundowners. There is a separate guest braai area and guests are welcome to use the pool area to unwind and relax. There is an additional single bed in the large living area to accommodate a third guest if necessary.
